Commencing with the 2019 Alberta racing season, if a horse is declared to start in a claiming race but is scratched:

• If the horse races within a period of 30 days from the date it was scratched, that horse is subject to be claimed at a total price no greater than the amount for which it could have been claimed for in the race from which it was scratched.

With the exception:

• The horse is entered in a Sweepstakes or Stakes race or a Handicap race.
