About:

The Professional Groom and Exercise Rider Programs are Canada's only College racetrack training programs.

History:

The Professional Groom certificate started in 2003 and the Professional Exercise Rider certificate in 2004 as a partnership between Horse Racing Alberta and Olds College to proactively train students for the racing industry.

With over 120 graduates still making their living with horses around the world, HRA and Olds College are proud of the professional, skilled and competent equestrian alumni. Graduates can be found breeding, grooming, driving, riding and training at racetracks and farms in Canada, United States, Ireland, England, New Zealand and Australia.

Program Benefits:

Students get a combination of theoretical knowledge, practical skills and a deep understanding of handling racehorses. The combination of formal education and practical experience can lead to rewarding careers for young people who are passionate about working with horses.

Both Groom and Exercise Rider are immersed in a hands-on educational experience at the Olds College campus and then complete work experience and practicum hours at Alberta racetracks and farms.
