B Cup Stakes Day a huge success

The Superbowl of horse racing on the Community Circuit took place this past weekend at Rocky Mountain Turf Club after being delayed a week from the snowstorm that blew threw the previous week. The track was still somewhat suspect from all of the moisture, but the B Cup Stakes went off without a hitch.

The two-year-old stakes was a battle of Courtney Ross-trained horses, as Neville Stephenson picked up the victory with, "Lil Miss Molly", while Larris Allen brought in," Moore's Miracle", for a game second-place finish.

The three-year-old stakes winner was, "Anello", owned and trained by Bill Kinch, and ridden to victory by Trevor Simpson, pulling off an upset over the heavily favoured, "Hybrid", winner of the Grande Prairie Derby.

The three-year-old filly race lit up the board with long shot, "Missluciejane", ridden by Andrew Wright and trained by Memory McCracken, launching a huge stretch drive to pay out forty-five dollars plus for the win. Second place went to Courtney Ross', "Unified Hearts", ridden by Neville Stephenson.

The sprint race for fillies and mares was basically a match race between two of the best mares on the grounds. Lyle Magnuson's, "Sterling Aly", battled Len Hambly's, "Silent Auction", the entire race and Larris Allen hung on for a narrow victory over Orlando Foster aboard, "Silent Auction".

The sprint stakes for the boys gave Lyle Magnuson a chance to show just how good his gelding, "Doc Radke" is, as Larris Allen rode him to victory, while second place went to Mankumar Mohindee's, "Carlot Cowboy", ridden by Jose Rocha.

The long-shot action came back to life in the Filly and Mares seven-furlong stakes race with Blandford Stewart pulling off an impressive gate-to-wire win with the longest shot on the board, the Codi Blattler trained, "Pretty Dark Rose". Lloyd Weeseekase's, "Show Me Bofum", guided by Orlando Foster, ran a close second.

Another long shot nearly picked up the victory in the mile and sixteenth Classic Stakes with Juan Apango- guided Mankumar Mohindee's, "Unstoppable Colby". Nellie Pigeau's, "Mater's Bluff", ridden by Blandford Stewart came on in the stretch to just pick up the victory in a photo finish.

Lots of horses and large fields have been the theme for Rocky Mountain Turf Club this fall. To say the racing has been competitive would be an understatement. Four riders all have a shot at the leading rider award this fall, Trevor Simpson, Larris Allen, Blandford Stewart and Orlando Foster. All four riders would be deserved winners and this weekend will tell the tale.

As for the leading trainer award, Nellie Pigeau has a comfortable lead right now, and will be tough to reach by another trainer.
