One of the largest crowds in years showed up at Evergreen Park last weekend to not only take in some great horse racing, but to watch the inaugural Wiener Dog stakes racing. There were four trials and then the big finish with eight dogs doing battle.
An estimated crowd of over three thousand people created an absolute explosion of sound with cheering and yelling. The explosion continued as Lyle Magnusons, "Doc Radke", showed why he's one of the best with an easy victory over Jack Bolin"s, "Uncle Kimo". in leg two of the Sprint Stakes Series.
On Saturday it was the Quarter Horse folks who shone in the 110 yard sprint stakes race with William Leech's, "True Copy", actually having daylights with Ricardo Moreno on board, over Bucky Stockwell's, "J. D. Wagon Boss" for an easy victory.
Attendance and handle alike have been on the increase at Evergreen Park so far this season and with the Alberta Derby set for this weekend, attendance and handle are expected to be on the upswing once again.
