It was an exciting and well-attended weekend at Evergreen Park, with the highlight race being the Grande Prairie Derby on Sunday.

On Saturday, Blandford Stewart stole the show. In what is in all likelihood a new record at Evergreen Park, Blandford Stewart won six consecutive races, (two through seven), to take a commanding lead in the leading-jockey standings. Three of the horses he won on were trained by Nellie Pigeau, who has also moved into top spot in the race for Evergreen Park trainer of the year. In 2018, both Stewart and Pigeau won the award.  Clearly Evergreen Park agrees with both individuals, as they are having a stellar meet.

On Saturday, the A.C.T.R.A. Alberta Bred Stakes took place for Fillies & Mares, and Colts and Geldings.

The Filly and Mare race was a romp by superstar horse, "Lady Amelia", who is trained by Garry Marks. Blandford Stewart rode the mare to an easy victory, with Les Adams- trained, "Voodoo Vixen", a distant second.

In the Colts and Geldings race, Pigeau and Stewart teamed up again, crossing the finish line first with, "Why Not Live", while Jim Depew's, "Captain Will", was a game second.

In the Grande Prairie Derby, local trainer, Jason Coney, struck gold with his prized three-year-old, "Hybrid", ridden by Trevor Simpson. It was impossible to wipe the smile off Jason's face, and there's talk of him running the horse in the Alberta Derby for a shot at the fifty-thousand dollar purse on July 28th at Evergreen Park.

The final race on Sunday was by far the most exciting race of the day, with rookie seventy-year old trainer, Len Hambly, picking up the victory with, "Silent Auction", surging down the stretch to pick up the victory.
