MEETING: Century Mile Racetrack & Casino, Alberta, Canada - October 2, 2026

According to HORSE RACING ALBERTA, OWNER, DRIVER, DONALD EDWARD HOWLETT, PERM ADD: WEST ST. PAUL, MANITOBA, CANADA, D.O.B. AUGUST 13, 1968, did violate HORSE RACING ALBERTA Rule 286, is hereby INDEFINITELY SUSPENDED FROM ALL RACETRACKS IN ALBERTA (INCLUDING GRANDSTAND) UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF HORSE RACING ALBERTA as of Sunday, October 4, 2026, pending review by the Director, Regulatory and Supervisor of Racing, Chuck Ibey, of an incident which occurred on Saturday, September 26, 2026 at Century Mile Racetrack and Casino involving the horse “THE GREAT CAPTAIN”.

The incident involved directing the trainer to take the horse “THE GREAT CAPTAIN” to the track between races and train the horse in spite of the fact the horse had been scratched from the 1st race on Saturday, September 26, 2026 by the Official Veterinarian for lameness. 

The Director, Regulatory and Supervisor of Racing will be reviewing Mr. Howlett’s conduct towards the Official Veterinarian, Dr. Dale Gibson.
