Steady rain showers dampened the track, but not the action at Northlands Park over the weekend. On Friday evening - eight different riders returned to victory lane aboard the eight 6F winners over the 'good' track.

Headlining the card was the beautiful grey Swiss Idol - breaking his maiden for Red Ron Farms, trainer Red Smith and likeable pilot Kyle 'KC' Carter. The 3YO son of Swiss Yodeler was out for his season debut - his 5th career start - after finishing in the runner-up spot three times in 2012. He raced like a trooper, putting away stiff challenges by both Clever Speed and Art Express, before drawing off by 3 3/4 lengths @ 4-1.

Red Ron Farms and trainer Red Smith would also hit with China Doll (Mario Velazquez) for a pair of victories on the night.

Other Friday winners included Bull Time (Tony Maragh), Cool Crosby (Jose Guerrero), Palm Drive (Nate Smith), Oil Country (Rico Walcott), Perfecto Cat (Amie Pooli) and Accomodator (Jorge Espitia).

It was the Rod Cone show, on Saturday afternoon, as the veteran conditioner would send out three rock solid winners on the afternoon card. Beau Diablo (Jorge Espitia), for CanMedia Inc., would make it two-for-two at the Park after scoring by a neck over a very determined Herculean. The two matched strides throughout the exciting contest - with the race only being decided in the final strides.

Cone would also score with Shady Exchange (Rico Walcott) for Reid Racing Stable and Sudden Arrival ('Fast' Eddy Martinez) for Rosemarie Hominuik to complete the hatrick.

Quincy Welch and apprentice rider Amie Pooli would record riding doubles on the day. Welch would pilot Tony The Tank to a downright gutsy Non 2/Allowance win and come back with claimer Grat Substitution - in the finale. Pooli would tally with front-runner Foxy Rocket and maiden claimer Captain's Tale for her deuce.

The one final winner on the day was longshot Ima Poet (Kyle Carter) @ 29-1, for owner Doug Blair and trainer Joan Petrowski.

Who's Hot

Rico Walcott continues to lead all riders with 19 wins. Amie Pooli has 10, with Quincy Welch at 7. Agent Bob Fowlis carries the book on all three riders.

Conditioners Greg Tracy and Rod Cone are tied with 9 wins each, atop the trainer standings. Tim Rycroft and Dale Saunders have each sent out 5 winners, at the Park, so far in 2013.

Riversedge Racing Stables tops the owners list with 5 wins, while Reid Racing Stable, Doug Blair, Red Ron Farms and Highfield SF Ltd. have all sent out three winners on the meet.
