The racing season is finally in full swing and we’re all looking forward to a successful season. The board has been busy planning events for the summer to build morale and a sense of community.

Coming Events

  • Outdoor Games day and BBQ – There will be a Backstretch BBQ on June 17th starting at 5:30 in the NP Backstretch Vet Clinic with outdoor games in the infield afterward.  We will bring the games (horseshoes, badminton, baseball, volleyball, etc…) and you organize your own games!  Free for all HRA licensees and their families.
  • June 21 is National Aboriginal Day in Canada and Enoch Cree Nation is planning some great events to celebrate at Northlands Park.  There will also be a contest for the “Best Dressed Pony” that best depicts the theme of the day.  Prizes are 1st - $300, 2nd - $200.00, and 3rd - $100.00 – Guidelines will be posted soon.
  • Best dressed pony theme for July – Canada Day July 1.


  • Fundscrip Gift card fundraiser – This program lets us earn cash rebates for the Backstretch based on items you buy and use every day like groceries, gas, and household items.  All you have to do is pay your purchases with gift cards bought at face value.  Instead of paying with cash or debit card you use your gift card that you purchase through the Backstretch Foundation.  Please see Theresa Sealy or Jeanette Haggan for order forms. 
  • Honey sale –The Backstretch Foundation has partnered with Tu-bees Honey Company to fundraise for the Backstretch Foundation.  The honey comes in convenient tubes in many flavors - cinnamon, maple, Saskatoon berry, black cherry, plain, lemon, raspberry, and on special occasions chocolate.  The tubes are $5.00 each or a case of 12 for $54.00 ($4.50 each).  They can be purchased at the Learning Center onsite at Northlands Park.  Thank you Tu-bees honey!   • Groom of 2013 winner – Misty Macdonald! Congratulations to runners up Melisa Gilkyson and Candelario Robledo. You’re hard work does not go unnoticed!
  • Congratulations to Dee Davies and Zakk Schell on the arrival of their little daughter Coy.
  • Sunday track closing for training will start on June 8th.
  • Get Well Wishes go out to Ryan Husbands.  Wishes for a quick recovery.

  • The Learning Center is open weekdays 12:00-5:00, and race days 11:00-4:00.  The Learning Center offers 5 computer stations with printer, wi-fi, fax services, library area, games, and puzzles!
