Alberta is home to four Alberta bred yearlings sired by the now famous California stallion Lucky Pulpit, sire of Triple Crown hopeful California Chrome. When asked what made him choose Lucky Pulpit at that time, Don Gibb said California wascloser than Kentucky and he liked the sire Pulpit and Tapit (another son of Pulpit).

He tried unsuccessfully to get a deal on the $2500 stud fee but shipped his mares anyway swayed by the farm manager's response of "I think he's worth that." Gibb was rewarded with four foals by Lucky Pulpit and the now yearlings are currently living at his farm in Raymond near Lethbridge. Harris Farm in California where Lucky Pulpit stands now lists his stud fee as private.

The future plans for these Lucky Pulpit yearlings are still to be determined however you can bet Gibb will be watching the Belmont the first weekend in June!
