Welch Sidelined

Jockey Quincy Welch, who returned from Ontario to ride in Edmonton this summer, has been sidelined yet again.

After suffering a minor shoulder injury, in a training accident here a few weeks back, Welch returned to ride the horses at Northlands Park last weekend. This past Wednesday evening Welch would be aboard Boston Rob (tr. Dale Greenwood) when Tway (tr. Red Smith), ridden by Mario Velazquez, would cause interference into the stretch.

There was some crowding amongst the horses and Boston Rob would stumble, but stay up, while Welch would be sent hard to the ground - where he'd then suffer a broken collar bone on impact.

Trainers Jerri Robertson and Twylla Bensmiller have teamed up to organize a 'Hot Dog Rally' for this coming Wednesday morning, on the backstretch, of Northlands Park.

"We did a little something for Oscar (Martinez) last season when he got sidelined and horse people were great to step up," says Robertson. "Quincy is expected to miss a considerable amount of time and we're just trying to help out once again."

"We're inviting horse people to stop by our shed rows on Wednesday morning, beginning around 8 am, to show their support," she says. "There'll be hot dogs, pop and chips - and of course donations would be most welcome..."

From all of us… Get well soon Quincy!
