Edmonton, Alberta - The yearling sale average at the CTHS Alberta Yearling Sale increased more than 30% over the previous year with an average price this sale of $11,117.00. Held at the Northlands EXPO Centre this past Sunday, the event was a resounding success with 64 yearlings sold resulting in gross sales of $711,500.
Highfield Stock Farm of Okotoks, Alberta consigned the sale topper for 2014 with Hip #55, a yearling by EXHI out of Lemon Drop Martini by LEMON DROP KID. This gelding sold to T. Rycroft, agent for Riversedge Racing Stables of Okotoks, Alberta for an impressive $49,000. Lemon Drop Martini is the dam of the Alberta bred multiple stakes winner LEMON PEPPER.
The partnership of Dawson Guhle and Bruce Ternan was the top consignor by yearling average selling two yearlings for an average of $32,500 each. Riversedge Racing Stable was the top purchaser by yearling average buying six yearlings for an average of $23,916.00 each.
CTHS Management was pleased with the results of the sale noting that the substantial increase in the yearling sale average is a positive sign after a few years of a more static sale average.
