Feelin Flush Takes Mares Open
Feelin Flush found herself back on top this past Saturday taking the Mares Open Pace at Alberta Downs for driver-trainer Travis Cullen. The six yr-old daughter of As Promised has had to settle for being a bridesmaid to her stablemate Sing Like An Angel during their past three contests.
Feelin Flush and Cullen left the gate from post four. Being in no hurry off the gate the duo settled into fifth by the first quarter while Blue Star Beauty (Clark) took charge on the front end with Gts Jerilyn (Redwood) and American Passion (Hudon) following suit. Crackers Hot Shot (Tainsh) settled in fourth while Sing Like An Angel (Giesbrecht) trailed. But it didn’t take long for Feelin Flush and Cullen to tip out and make a move down the backside. Blue Star Beauty continued to lead the pack at the half in 57.1 and the three quarters in 1:25.2 while Feelin Flush slowly made her way towards the leader. Following her cover was stablemate Sing Like An Angel and Giesbrecht. Heading down the homestretch Blue Star Beauty was all out trying to hang on to the lead. But a tigress Feelin Flush hunted her down for the win in 1:54.1. Sing Like An Angel came up for second while American Passion dug deep to fend off a fast closing Crackers Hot Shot for third prize. Blue Star Beauty faltered to fifth and Gts Jerilyn was a trailing sixth.
Feelin Flush now has 27 lifetime victories and now boasts $202,704 in lifetime earnings. Cullen shares ownership on the mare with Ken Hanson of Strathclair, MB. The winner paid $4.30 2.30 2.10. The 4-6 Exactor paid $13.20 and the 4-6-1 Triactor paid $47.90.
Travis Cullen had another big day at the office with four driving wins on the day. In the first race Cullen drove Intended Gold to score a win in 1:58.3 for trainer Blair Thomas. Cullen was right back in the winner’s circle with Rs Dancer in the second race for trainer Doug Shaw and owners Riverside Stables of Cochrane, AB. The hat trick came with Feelin Flush in the fourth race and Cullen once again saw victory in the eighth race with trainee Keyed Entry. Cullen also co-owns Keyed Entry with Ken Hanson of Strathclair, MB.
Racing resumes at Alberta Downs this Saturday and Sunday. Post time is 1:15pm.
