Cullen Continues To Dominate

Travis Cullen enjoyed another spectacular day on this past Sunday winning five of the 11 races at Alberta Downs afternoon card which included the $8400 Open Pace with Who Doesnt. The 6-5 favorite left from post five while shooting off the gate to settle in to the pocket trip behind Blue Star Admiral who hit the first quarter in 28.1.

Cullen and Who Doesnt continued to stay in the pocket until the last turn when he pulled and collared Blue Star Admiral and cruised by him down the stretch to victory and posting an impressive time of 1:53 flat. Stablemate Playbook driven by Phil Giesbrecht closed hard to come up for second with a last quarter in 27.1. Five lengths back at the wire Blue Star Admiral held on for third while AB 3yr-old 2013 Champion Premium Attaction was fourth in his 2014 racing debut.

This was Who Doesnt's fourth win on the year and eleventh career win. The five year old Mach Three gelding now boasts $125,430 in lifetime earnings for his owners. Cullen shares ownership with Jeanne, Kenneth and Jodie Cullen of Manitoba.

Cullen enjoyed four more victories on Sunday with his trainees Roof Daddy and Yankee Luke. He also hit the winners circle with CCs Princess for trainer Blair Thomas and with Justapassin Fanci for trainer Connie Kolthammer.

Bettors enjoyed some nice pay-outs on Saturday, May 24th. In the first race Cowboy Mathis paid $19.50 $13.50 $8.20. The second race Theconnorman paid $19.40 to win while Sonic Spark paid $16.80 to win in the fourth. Right back in the fifth Shezgotdawoogies paid a nice $19.80 for the win ticket and Outlawdangruswtrs paid a sweet $30.70 for his victory in the eighth.

Stakes Action!

The 2014 Stakes season will kick off this Saturday, May 31st at Alberta Downs with the Wild Rose for 3yr-old Fillies. There will be three divisions with a purse of $13,333 for each division. The first division will be contested in the fifth race where we will see 2013 Champion 2yr-old nominee Rummys Command leaving from post six with Keith Clark aboard and Triple Action 3-1 driven by Jamie Gray leaving from post four. Triple Action was also a 2013 AB Champion 2yr-old nominee.

The seventh race will be the second division with Rollin Deep (Chappell) who is the 2-1 morning line favorite leaving from post five and the second choice at 3-1 Mystic Return (Clark) will leave from post three.

All guns will be firing in the eighth race and third division of the Wild Rose where we will see 2013 Champion 2yr-old Open Filly Shark Festival and 2013 Champion 2yr-old AB Filly Nighttraintovegas go head to head. This should set up to be a very competitive race and competitive season for these talented young fillies. Shark Festival drew the two hole while Nighttraintovegas will leave from post 5.

The Adios Pick for 3yr-old Colts and Geldings will be Sunday, June 1st. We can always anticipate great competition and blazing miles with the 3yr-old glamour boys. Heading the first division will be the 2013 Champion 2yr-old AB Colt Comes Home First. Regular driver Jim Marino will handle the lines and be leaving from post two. In his company will be the 2013 Champion 2yr-old AB Colt nominee Blue Eyed Cowboy and will have regular driver Bill Tainsh JR in the bike with post seven. In the second division we will see Ghost Pine who is also an ASHA Awards nominee and stablemate My Boss line up behind the gate one and two for trainer Kelly Hoerdt. In addition, Keith Clark has two entries in this division with Get Thereovernight and Gotta Dream Big with post six and seven. Both divisions will have a purse of $20,000 each.

Alberta Sires Stakes for 3yr-olds are scheduled in June. The $20,000 eliminations for the AB Princess will be Saturday, June 15th with the $50,000 final set for Saturday, June 21st. The $20,000 eliminations for the AB Plainsmen are Sunday, June 16th and a $50,000 final Sunday, June 22nd.
