Play Me Right and J. Brandon Campbell had no other plans but to go right to the front and stay there in the $53,600 Alberta Maverick Final on Saturday night at Northlands Park.  Well the plan worked to success as nobody got close to catching the three year old gelding as he cruised to a big win.  Sent off as the 2/1 co-favorite, Play Me Right got off the gate beautifully and his early matters were helped when the other 2/1 shot in the field, Premium Attaction, broke stride right as he was coming up to challenge going into that first turn.

Play Me Right led Blue Star Admiral through an opening quarter in 27.2 seconds and a half in 57.3.  Tip Top Tap made a move after the leaders first over going to three quarters, but Campbell had plenty left in the tank and when they straightened away, Play Me Right exploded down the lane, pulling clear to win with ease by a length and three quarters in 1:53.4.  Blue Star Admiral finished a good second while Bettor in the Bank was third.

River Blues flies late to get up in the Ab Marquis

Gerry Hudon got his three year old filly River Blues going at just the right time as she flew down the center of the track and inhaled most of her rivals in the final yards to win the $54,500 Alberta Marquis Finals.  Dismissed on the tote board at odds of 15/1, River Blues settled back in seventh early on as G Ts Selene and favored Crackers Hot Shot traded punches on the early lead, setting a quarter in 27.4 and a half in 57.2.  Crackers Hot Shot and William Tainsh Jr. looked to sneak away going to three quarters but Emotions Run Wild and Kelly Hoerdt came up to press him first over and those two hooked up for most of the final turn.  Emotions Run Wild finally started to get the better of Crackers Hot Shot as they straightened away, but that battle they’d had on the turn caught up with them as River Blues who was seventh and still five lengths behind at the top of the lane, came flying home down the outside of the track to get up and pull clear late to win by three quarters of a length.  Crackers Hot Shot finished up in second while G Ts Selene re-rallied to get back up into the third spot.

National Debt dominates once again, wins his division of the Premiers Colts and Geldings

National Debt put on another exhibition of pacing on Friday Night when he dominated his division of the $25,000 Premiers Colts and Geldings at Northlands Park.  National Debt was bet down to 1/5 favoritism and breaking from the far outside post, he wasn’t able to get to the rail right away so driver Kelly Hoerdt was able to find a pocket spot in fourth early on as Pass The Port and Jet Tracker went out and battled through an opening quarter mile of 27.4 seconds and half mile in 57 seconds flat.  Hoerdt made his move with National Debt going to the final turn as Jet Tracker put two lengths on the field.  But once they straightened up, National Debt powered on by and opened up at will to pull clear down the lane and win by six and three quarter lengths, stopping the clock in 1:55.  Jet Tracker was able to hold onto the place spot with ease, as he was six lengths clear of Pass The Port who finished up in third.

The second division of the Premiers Colts and Geldings featured what the bettors saw as a match race between Ghost Pine and Blue Eyed Cowboy.  Both were sent off below 7/5 odds, and it was Ghost Pine and Kelly Hoerdt who were able to use the rail to his advantage as he sat in the pocket early on before pulling out to take the lead going to a half mile in 58.2.  Blue Eyed Cowboy meanwhile was fourth early on but as they moved on the backstretch, he tipped out to make his run and quickly ran up to second as they reached three quarters in 1:27.1.  Blue Eyed Cowboy tried to close up to Ghost Pine to set up the expected stretch battle, but Ghost Pine just had so much left down the lane as he held on to win by a solid length and three quarters.  Blue Eyed Cowboy was second while 21/1 long shot Sonic Spark finished up in third.

In the $25,000 Premiers Filly divisions 1 and 2, it was the Keith Clark show as he swept both divisions.  In the first division Clark guided Rummys Command to a perfect pocket spot victory.  Rummys Command came out in second and sat back in the pocket for most of the journey as Blue Star Escape and Kelly Hoerdt went out to set the fractions which were quite moderate.  Triple Action, the race favorite was third throughout and as they arrived at the top of the stretch, Keith Clark finally gave Rummys Secret her cue and she erupted from out of the pocket and got up to win by three quarters of a length.  Blue Star Escape held the third spot and finished three quarters of a length ahead of Triple Action who ran third.

Clark utilized that same pocket trip in the second division as he ran a nearly identical trip with Shark Festival who sat second behind Nighttraintovegas and J. Brandon Campbell who set the early pace.  Nighttraintovegas brought that lead all the way into the stretch, but Shark Festival shook loose and pulled clear late to win with panache by three and a quarter lengths over Nighttraintovegas and Sweet Sugar who ran second and third respectively.
