A beautiful Saturday afternoon, under sunny skies, welcomed back the horses at Century Downs Racetrack and Casino. Jedi Tricks would capture the season opener for owners Brent Bodor and Sandor Jaszai, with Brandon Campbell aboard, in a quick mile of 1:57 flat. Bodor would go on to win the next two races, on the day, with Classy Artist (JF Gagne) wiring them up in 1:56 and Diggin A Trench (Brandon Campbell) going all the way in 1:58.2.

The top class event, in Race 4, would see Pure Addition trying to go 8-for-8 in 2022, but it was not to be for popular mare as she'd crack under the first-up pressure of Stash The Cookies in rein to Phil Giesbrecht - who'd be picking up career driving win number 1,001 - after hitting the 1,000 win marker aboard Madd Flight Brown this past Monday at B.C.'s Fraser Downs. Stash The Cookies, owned by Chris Lancaster and Derek Gilbert, was winning for the first time, in a few seasons, after being claimed in her latest and debuting for her new connections. "Stash The Cookies has actually been pretty impressive all of her life," says trainer Lancaster. "She has her issues, but it looks like we have them under control."

The front half of Saturday's card would include a wild four-across finish, in Race 5, ending in a dead heat for the win between Rockin Shadow (Brandon Campbell) and Blue Who (Tyler Redwood). Kingofthewest (Phil Giesbrecht) was just a head back in third, while Sunset Rider (Jamie Gray) would complete the top four.

Other winners included Tagoras (Jamie Gray) in 1:58 - owned by Vladimir Kreker and trained by Kelly Crump; Divas Black Gold (Dave Kelly) for Meadowlark Farms and trainer Carl Archiblad in 1:58.3; Shark Week and Mike Hennessy in 1:55.4 - the fastest mile on the day for owners Lorne Duffield and Rod Hennessy; Gold Onthehorizon (Phil Giesbrecht) in 1:58 for Ken Hanson and Giesbrecht; Litizor (Jamie Gray) in 2:01 for Neil Malloch and Gray.

Brandon Campbell drove for the triple, while Phil Giesbrecht and Jamie Gray had driving doubles on the day. The next live racing program at Century Downs Racetrack and Casino comes up on Saturday, March 5 with a 2:15 PM start time.
