Alberta Fillies "Sensational" in Stakes Action

     Super filly Crackers Hot Shot did not disappoint in her $10,000 elimination of the Alberta Marquis on Saturday, October 12

winning by five and half lengths in a time of 1:54.4. She is undefeated in the Alberta Sires Stakes action this year and now boasts lifetime earnings of $142,759. She will compete in the $50,000 final of the Alberta Marquis held on October 26th at Northlands Park and then on to the Alberta Super Finals November 2nd. Emotions Run Wild (Hoerdt) was a solid second and Cane Sugar (Gray) was third.

In the other division we saw GT’s Selene (Cullen) take her elimination in Alberta Marquis in a time of 1:56.4 in a convincing four lengths. Cenalta Fireworks (Goulet) came up for second while Barona Lilac (Hoerdt) crossed the line in third place.

Also in the spotlight were two $10,000 divisions of the ASHA Filly Stakes for 2yr-old fillies. Shark Festival (Keith Clark) was victorious in the first division winning by one length in a time of 1:57.1 The favorite Nighttraintovegas (Brandon Campbell) was second and the winner’s stablemate Make Three Wishes (Bobby Clark) was third.

Sweet Sugar (Travis Cullen) was the other victorious winner in the second division of the ASHA Filly with a new lifetime mark of 1:56.3. The victory pushed her winning streak to four in a row. Rummys Command (Keith Clark) took home second money while Justapassin Fanci (Gerry Hudon) took third prize.


On Sunday, October 13 th the 2yr-old boys took centre stage for the ASHA Colt Stakes where we saw a pair of $10,000 divisions contested. In the first division Blue Eyed Cowboy (Bill Tainsh Jr) turned in another great performance winning in 1:53.3 which equalls the two-year-old track record just set by National Debt on September 29th at Alberta Downs. Three lengths behind Jet Tracker (Brandon Campbell) finished second and Sonic Spark (Gerry Hudon) finished third.

National Debut (Kelly Hoerdt) had to over come the seven post position to win his division of the ASHA Colt in an impressive two and half length victory. This was National Debut’s third trip in a row to the winner’s circle. Comes Home First (JF Gagne) was a solid second and The Big Heist (Rene Goulet) was seven lengths back for third.

The glamour boys also took the stage for the Alberta Maverick eliminations for three-old-colts and geldings. A very impressive Play Me Right (Brandon Campbell) won the first elinination by more than six lengths in a smoking time of 1:52. Tip Top Tap (Rod Hennessy) just edged out the fast closing Outlaw Falcon (JF Gagne) for second spot.

2012 Alberta Two Year Old Champion Premium Attaction (Kelly Hoerdt) easily won his elimination of the Alberta Maverick by two lengths in 1:56.2. Tinhorn Creek (Gerry

Hudon) came up for second prize while the early leader Bettor In The Bank (Keith Clark) stayed for third.

Both the Alberta Marquis and the Alberta Maverick $50,000 finals will be contested on Saturday, October 26 th at Northlands Park.


Other Notables:

Travis Cullen

was nothing short of spectacular on Monday October 14th at Alberta Downs with five driving wins on the day. Cullen started the day with a win in the first race sitting behind Sing Like An Angel. In the third race Cullen drove the winner Artxzipit and once again in the eighth with Glitteronthebeach. We then saw Cullen back in the winner’s circle back to back with his recently claimed Raging Fingers in the ninth and Frisco in the tenth.

Blue Star Beauty

(Bill Tainsh Jr) scored her second straight victory to win the Open Mares Pace on Saturday October 12th. The favorite paced in 1:55 for trainer Doug Stout.

Cowboy Caper

(Kelly Hoerdt) scored a victory in the Open Pace on Sunday, October 13th in a new lifetime mark of 1:52.2.

Alberta Downs will wrap it’s season up this Saturday, October 19 th.

There will be thirteen races on the day. Post time 1:15pm.
