Brings highest price at ASHA Yearling Sale

The Alberta Standardbred Horse Association held their 2013 Yearling Sale on Saturday, September 21

at the Megadome in Olds, AB. ASHA is very pleased to announce the sale was a huge success with total sales of $351,000 and an average price of $10,027. This year’s sale was definitely one of the most successful sales in recent years. Long-time prominent Alberta owners once again stepped up and purchased top yearlings. We also saw new faces from across the country buying our product. The consignors brought nicely bred yearlings and did a great job by having them well prepped and ready to enter the ring.

Jimbo Jo (Hip #31) fetched the highest price at the ASHA sale. Bred by Meridian Farms, the son of the late Brandons Cowboy out of the dam Just Sassy was purchased for $38,000 by Blair Corbeil and Kelly Hoerdt. Just Sassy who has a record of 1:54.1 and earnings of over $269,000 was a great racing mare here in Alberta. She had a record of 18 wins along with winning the 2003 ASHA Award for Two Year Old Fillies and the 2004 ASHA Award for Three year Old Fillies. Just Sassy won numerous stake races including the Northlands Filly Pace, Counterfeit Crown, Emerald Filly Stake, Premiers Stake and Compass Rose Stake. Jimbo Jo is her fourth foal and has a half brother Ghost Pine (now two) who just won his last start in a sizzling 1:54.2 at Alberta Downs. Ghost Pine was purchased for $15,000 out of the 2012 ASHA Yearling sale also by Blair Corbeil and Kelly Hoerdt.

The second highest priced yearling was Thisboycanfinish (Hip #18) was purchased for $30,000 by Keith Clark. Thisboycanfinish is also a son of the late stallion Brandons Cowboy and out of the dam Cinderella Cam and bred by Jim Rhodes of High River, AB.

Keith Clark also took home the third top priced yearling Withflyingcolours (Hip #26) for $23,000. Withflyingcolours is the son of Blue Burner and out of the mare Red Star Sugar Gal. The brown gelding was bred by Kathleen and Clifford Coonfer of Olds, AB.
