Dr. Fred Kruszelnicki of Brooks, Alberta has been in the Standardbred business a long time - he raced his first horse in 1981 and has been in the game ever since.

Dr. Kruszelnicki usually races a few horses in Alberta, and his 2 year old Best Advice recently broke his maiden in a tune up for the $50,000 Horizon Pace for Colts & Geldings which is on Saturday, October 1.

Dr. Kruszelnicki's favourite horse was a filly he purchased in Kentucky in 2000 named Lifesliltreasure. She won 13 races in Alberta, even beating the boys in Open races before she ran out of conditions and continued her winning ways in Ontario. Her race career was outstanding, and she won 32 races and made over $415,000 before she retired to become a broodmare.

Lifesliltreasure was sent to Kentuckiana Farms in Kentucky, and Dr. Kruszelnicki has had a lot of thrills from her foal by Well Said, Control The Moment! Although he sold Control The Moment as a yearling, a breeder never really 'lets go’, and Dr. Kruszelnicki loved watching his success as a 2 year old, winning 8 out of 9 races and making over $461,000!

He was just getting started, and Control The Moment dominated this year as a 3 year old. He was the favourite for the 40th edition of the $732,050 Crawford Farms Meadowlands Pace on Saturday, July 16 at Meadowlands Racetrack. He went from a comfortable lead at the half and had to dig deep to hold on and in a heartstopping finish, Control The Moment won the race by a nose!

On September 8, Control The Moment's team announced his retirement after an injury. He won 12 of his 18 career starts and $1,227,832 in purses. His owners look forward to a long and successful career with him as a stallion.

Dr. Kruszelnicki still owns Lifesliltreasure, and will continue to breed and own Standardbreds. He says of the industry "You have to take it one day at a time. Control The Moment has been the horse of a lifetime, and I have to thank Kentuckiana Farms in Lexington and trainer Brad Maxwell for doing such a great job with my horses. It's a thrill to win any race, but Lifesliltreasure and Control the Moment have given me some big thrills. Watching Control The Moment win the Meadowlands Pace was the incredible!"

Congratulations, Dr. Kruszelnicki! We look forward to cheering you on at home and cheering on more of Lifesliltreasure's babies!
