It's hard to believe but the Rocky Mountain Turf Club Fall Meet is into October, with only one weekend to go.
There'll be racing this Friday, Saturday and Sunday with post time 6:00 p.m. Friday and 1:15 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Sunday race fans will be treated to many tops races.
There's the Horseman's Division 2 and Division 1 races, both 400 yards with $6,500 and $8,500 purses respectively. As well there'll be the crowd favourite, one and three sixteenth, $4,500 added Starter Allowance 3rd leg.
"Races of this distance are always fan favourites and call for strictly stamina horses," said Rocky Mountain Turf Club Race Manager Dot Stein.
"We have a very social race Sunday, our five and a half furlong run, our E-Race Cancer Feature and we are asking all horsemen and race fans to wear pink to support the fight against cancer.
"Also our seventh race Sunday is the Jessi Payne Memorial. Jessi was suddenly taken from us in 2005 in a single vehicle rollover near Olds, Alberta where she was attending College.
"She was an avid rider and young horsewoman and spent a great deal of time with her grandparents, Ivan & Shirley Clark. Shirley is our qualified and dependable RMTC Parade Marshal." Jessi was involved with many organizations, including Young Riders Development Circuit; nine years in 4-H; and loved to trick ride with the Red Rodeo Cowboy Girls Trick Riding Group.
"Right after Jessi's Memorial we have a $4,500 Starter Allowance 3rd Leg, featuring Again and Gone, Maltese Pins, the energetic Regroup in the miles and 3/16teenths marathon with Mickey's Hot Corona, Golden Chapel and Tiz I Is.
It marks the third back to back distance race for Regroup and rider Stephen Blakey Dot has also laid on seven race for Friday, one more than usual and the lights will come into play.
Saturday There will be nine races, two of them Race Bucks under the Racing Club Starter Series Initiation..
Horses in the Race Bucks include Queen July, Luxury to Share, and Eye Dubi in the first race and Brite Judy, Lost Memory, Gimmesumsugar and Truly a Mist in the next two.
"Those involved the Cancer run Sunday include: Lady Mourne, Magical Grace, Got a Rope, Joey La Bamba, Snackable, Lil Miss G, Sweet Sioudsie and Citation Girl.," said Dot. "There' a $3,050 purse in this five and a half furlong run." The RMTC will have its Petting Zoo and candy scramble for the youngsters and there's the Dixieland music of the RMTC band as well as Vegas-style slots and simulcast races for the adults in Bullys.
