The Rocky Mountain Turf Club's Millarville Race Meet is a time honoured tradition - more than a 110 years of history in fact.

And for horsemen, this Tuesday, July 1, the Canada Day Millarville Race Meet promises a huge payday, over seven races.

Kicking off the popular race meet is a $7,000-Paint Stake of 350 yards, featuring horses like Tiny Dash of Bling, Weaselhead, Bond Up, Blink And Hes Gone, Autumns Dashing Moon and Jerseylicious.

The Heartland Dash features six horses and an $11,000 purse, in another 350-yard dash. Trainers in this race will be Tom Kenway, Laurie Ferguson, Kevin Oberholtzer, Harlan Birdrattler, Les Adams and Janet Sather.

The third and fourth race will be five furlong affairs, both with $5,000 purses, and both with five horses.

The fifth race is a $5,000, seven furlong run, again with five horses entered, all three-year-olds and up.

The Millarville Sprint Stake is a five furlong run, with a $7,000 guaranteed purse. Among the six horses you'll see Jim Depew's Pure Vertical, one of the top eight running at Whoop-Up Downs this season. As well there's Where's Henry, General Day, Five De Mayo, Western Kid and Cinchmeup.

The featured race of the day is the Millarville Derby, where eight horses will travel a mile and an eighth for a purse of $10,000.

Gail McConaghie has her Slews Academy in the field and Darcy Ralph has Mamoonya. Also look for Justanotherbob from Allen Brown and Pipestone Flyer from Michael Braun.

Rounding out the field will be Bent Tune from Kevin Oberholtzer, Paige's Peak from Bill Kinch, Nolan Littlebear with Big Sky Michael, and Rascal Cat from Rusty Smith.

Post time for the race card is 1 p.m.

But there's more than racing with crafts, baked goodies and other attractions, helping make the Millarville Race Meet a day to remember.
