It was a carnival-like atmosphere at Evergreen Park this past weekend. The festive crowd rivalled that of the Alberta Derby day in both crowd volume and excitement. Speaking of Alberta Derby day, July 28th will be the day of the next Alberta Derby with a purse of fifty thousand plus.

The highlight race of the first weekend was an open stakes race that Lyle Magnuson dominated, sending out his two prized possessions, “Doc Radke”, who went gate to wire for the victory and classy veteran, “General Day”, who chased him all the way for a second-place finish.

This weekend there are 21 relatively full-carded races at Evergreen Park, which should create a large audience and large betting handles.

It’s easy to see why Evergreen Park is considered to be one of the best tracks in western Canada to race at, with their exceptional surface, pristine shedrows and free shavings.
