"We had a super opening weekend, on the track and in grandstand, We've got a lot of new people
coming out and I hope that continues through the Fall," said Max Gibb, CEO of the RMTC. "For
the first time this fall we have nine races both Saturday and Sunday."
Saturday there'll be two $3,400 races, the sixth and seventh. The sixth, a five furlong affair,
features Beau Griz and Wisewood Bobbie. In the seventh you have Dubla Gold, Promiscuous
Lad and Eighty Eight. This is an all Thoroughbred card.
Sunday features all Thoroughbreds with the final race a $4,500 added Starter Allowance, the
First Leg, with Nellie Pegeau's Pipestone Flyer, Mamoonya from Lyle Magnuson and Colline
Draper with Starpone. This is a mile and sixteenth journey.
The Quarter horse Futurity trials last weekend saw William Leech rack up four winners, one not
in the trials, to take the trainers' lead for the Fall Meet. William qualified two horses for the
Finals and Laurie Ferguson qualified three.
Jockey Ramiro Sanchez Castillo came out with three winners and one more on Monday's card.
Blandford Stewart has four winners as well.
The Canada Quarter Hose Cup Futurity qualifying saw the top eight horses named: first the
horse, time and trainer: Mals First Down, 18:00 William Leech; Honor The Aztec, 18:10, Tom
Kenway; CR Strawflyn Bux. 18:13, Allen Goodsell; Invisible Woman, 18:26, Laurie Ferguson;
Weaselhead, 18:37, William Leech; Remington Memories, 1838, Laurie Ferguson; Way To
Dough, 18:45, Les Webb; KR Remember Me, 18:46, Laurie Ferguson.
The jockeys won't be named until the weekend of Sept. 15, when the Finals are run.
Race goers will be pleased with the bright new colours for the riders and horses' numbers,
enabling you to follow your horse around the entire track.
From this Sunday onward the RMTC will feature three-day meets each weekend, through Oct.
11-13, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The October holiday weekend, Oct. 4-7 will feature the final
Monday card of the year. Post time on Friday is 6 p.m. All other days it is 1:05 p.m.
Horses will got to the gate all other days at 1:05 p.m.
