The opening weekend of the fall race meet at Rocky Mountain Turf Club truly had a race for everyone, but the marquee race was the first leg of the Starter Allowance Marathon Series. "Bull Time", trained by Danny Oberholtzer and ridden by Larris Allen, upset, "Master's Bluff", who had been dominant in the marathon series of races in Grande Prairie's Evergreen Park. Blandford Stewart, the regular rider for "Master's Bluff", did a commendable job of getting him to the front and stealing a fraction, but simply didn't have enough horse to get the job done. "Bull Time", was ridden perfectly by Allen, and pounced just before the final turn home to pick up the victory. Long shot, "Cable Jet" , ridden by Juan Apango, picked up the show money.
This upcoming Saturday at Rocky Mountain Turf Club, it will be Alberta Bred Stakes day. This is always a popular day at the track and pays homage to some of the fine studs that are standing in Alberta.
September 21st and 22nd mark the return of the World Famous Indian Relay Races at Rocky Mountain Turf Club. There will be two days of Indian Relay racing merged in with the regular racing. The stands were packed for the spring event and the betting was heavy, so C.E.O. Max Gibb is expecting big things from this talented group of horses and riders. The upcoming weekend at R.M.T.C. will feature six races Friday night, with eight on Saturday and Sunday.
See you at the races!
