Preview at RMTC - Spotlight on the Speed horses

With racing Friday through Sunday at the RMTC, the spotlight falls on the speed horses Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday’s card opens with two, 400-yard sprints to qualify for the All Canadian Derby Trials. There are seven horses entered in the opening two races Saturday with fastest eight moving on to the championship run.

Bettors will see horses like Royal Red Corona, ER Café, Go Jessin Beaver, Zoomin My Wagon and Separate Jess among the contenders.

The remaining six races Saturday are all devoted to the Thoroughbreds, with six ad five and a half furlong shows,

Sunday’s card opens with three, 350 Sport Of Speed Trials for the Quarter Horse Futurity. The futurities feature six the first two races and seven the third, with the eight fastest moving on to the Finals.

One well-known Quarter horse are involved like Streakinbabe from William Leech, Arrow of Time from Tom Kenway, Munckin from Buckey Stockwell, CR Azoominshexquuick, General Gabe form Norbert Calfrobe, Tea Party Campaign from Godfry Weaselhead,. C O P Dundan from Buddy Bensmiller, P R’s Orphan from Jim Depew, and Just Zoom Will Do Deom Eric Turner.

“Also Sunday we are honouring one of our late horsemen, Melanie Solberg, with a Memorial race, the sixth race on our program,” said Max Gibb. “Horses in the Memorial will be from Gary Marks, Jill West, Barbara Norlander and Darcy Hawkes as well as others.

“We also have a Starter Allowance 3rd Leg, over a mile and three sixteens in the seventh race. There will be six horses in this race, including Regroup, Wicked Landlord and Pacific Tsunami.”

Trevor Simpson is the leading rider with 14 wins, one ahead of Jose Rocha. The trainer standings are equally as close with William Lech in the lead with nine wins and Lylle Magnuson one win behind.
