Well, here’s your opportunity. The 21st Annual Alberta Quarter Horse Racing Association Sport of Speed Yearling/Mixed Sale and Stallion Service Auction is set for Saturday, October 1 after the Saturday race card at the Rocky Mountain Turf Club. “This is an ideal time to check out the catalogue and see if there’s a horse or two that suits your needs, circle it in the listings and then bid on it,” says RMTC CEO Max Gibb. The sale begins at 7 p.m. in the South Pavilion at Exhibition Park.

“The added bonus here is the fact that only yearlings that go through the sale will be eligible for run in the big Futurity trial in the fall of 2017. And you realize it must be a registered Quarter horse to run in the Quarter Horse Futurity. “As well, the sale is everything a new horse owner would want to know about the horse racing industry here in Alberta." There will be $25,000 in added money for yearlings eligible for the 2017 Canada Cup Futurity.

“This is a great way to get into a great sport of horse racing. I know I’ve bought horses through this sale, the best one being that championship Paint we ran for about five or seven  years, Royal Woman,” said Gibb. “If you aren’t sure what to do there are people around who will show you what to look for in bloodlines and how to select a horse at the auction.”

A sales catalogue can be found online:

The auctioneer will be Perlich Brothers and the terms of the sale are cash or personal cheque. The horse who qualify are eligible for Alberta Bred Incentives and Programs. Stallion services include Special Fly Bye and Streakinisanattitude.

Buckey Stockwell is chairman of the sale and among the directors are Donalda Cochrane, Ken Kenway, Allen Goodsell and Barry Sather. There will be 62 horses offered and among the consigners will be Rick and Carol Aldoff, Angelle Carter, Laurie Ferguson and Rollingson Racing, Teagan Goodsell, William Leech, Shady Lane Stables and Buckey and Beverly Stockwell.

Among the well-known sires are Mezoomn, Coronas Fast Dash, PYC Paint Your Wagon, Sizzlin Red Corona, Streakin Six Corona, Special Fly Bye and Streakinisanattitude; dams include Rocky Mountain Lady, Hunters Fast Cash, Eyesa Chickens It Out and She’s My Candy Girl and many, many more.

Bidders may examine any horse prior to the sale and are advised to read the conditions of sale and notices throughout the catalogue as well as pay attention to announcement by the auctioneer.
