It looks like summer is finally here and it’s a busy couple of months coming up.

Coming Events

  • Joe Hain (Hungarian Joe) Soccer Tournament and BBQ – There will be a Backstretch Soccer tournament and BBQ in memory of longtime horseman Joe Hain on Sunday July 6thth starting at 1:00 pm at the Borden Park Soccer field. Registration of $5 is due by Thursday July 3rd.  Please register with Quincy Welch or Kyia Moore.  BBQ is Free for all HRA licensees and their families.
  • Backstretch Movie Night Tuesday July 8th at 6:00 in the Paddock Theatre – Behind the Gate” documentary with - Mark Giardino and Daryle Ann Lindley Giardino take you on a tour of the Sport of Kings in a way no other film ever has. Starring Joe Pesci, Oscar De La Hoya, Bob Baffert, Ron McAnally, Doug O'Neill and many other stars of racing.There will be hot dogs, soft drinks and popcorn served.  This event is FREE for all HRA licensees!
  • Trainers Test – Thursday July 10th at 5:00 in the Learning Center.  If you are interested in writing your test, please come to see Theresa Sealy in the HBPA office for Trainers applications and information.
  • Backstretch Baseball Tournament – August 5th at Borden Park diamonds.  BBQ lunch compliments of the HRA Backstretch Foundation will start at 11:00 am and the ball must drop for the first game at 12:00.  The Backstretch Foundation is only responsible for the BBQ and prizes this year, so for registering your team and any rules or game info please see Eddie Martinez.  Start getting your teams together!
  • The C.T.H.S. (Alberta Division) is pleased to announce that it will be hosting the Second Annual Art Show Opening Galaon Friday, September 19th, 2014 at Northlands Park, Edmonton Alberta. This equine art show and reception will showcase the talents of Canada’s equine artists.  Deadline for submissions is September 2nd 2014. For more information contact the CTHS of AB office at 403-229-3609.

  • Kate Ferrigan Massage and Reiki Therapy – Hello everyone!  My name is Kate Ferrigan and I am the massage therapist at Northlands Park.  I am easily located in the jockeys room here at the park.  I charge $60/hour or $30/30 minutes.  If you need a deep tissue massage or for relaxation, please give me a call to book.  I also do Reiki therapy which is a form of energy healing.  Please call or text me at 780-977-5806. 
  • Great to see Trainer Don Gilkyson back in the backstretch after being away for recovery of major surgery.  Welcome back Don!

  • The Learning Center is open dark weekdays 12:00-5:00, and race days 11:00-4:00.  The Learning Center offers 5 computer stations with printer, wi-fi, fax services, library area, movies, games, and puzzles!
