Down goes Lara
In another stroke of bad luck, at Northlands Park, another jockey suffered a broken collar bone after being unseated Saturday afternoon.
After the completion of Race 3, jockey Ruben Lara was on his way back with 3rd place finisher I'm a Bubble Too, trained by Joan Petrowski, when the 5YO gelding stumbled coming out of the bottom turn. Lara came off, and landed on his shoulder, while the horse remained on his feet and was soon snatched up by the outrider.
"His arm is in a sling and it will be re-evaluated in a few weeks," says Lara's agent Graham Niblett. "He could miss the rest of the meet," continued Niblett. "The absolute minimum is six weeks for a broken collar bone."
Lara, who began riding in 1998, is a winner of over 200 races and over $2M in purse money.
Please join us at Horse Racing Alberta in wishing Ruben a speedy recovery.
