Highlights of CTHS Alberta Sales Graduates

Nominations were just released by Northlands for the 2016 Alberta Breeders’ Fall Classic races to take place on Saturday, September 17th. This special annual day features seven restricted races for Alberta breds with over $350,000 in purse money. Thank you to the sponsors of these races - Highfield, Red Diamond Stables, White Windows Thoroughbreds, True North Holdings, Peaceful Valley Stable and Horse Racing Alberta.

Many high calibre runners are among the Alberta bred horses nominated for Alberta Breeders’ Fall Classic day. Many CTHS Sales graduates are among the nominated horses so make sure to attend the CTHS Alberta Sale the following day to find your future racing star among the sale yearlings.

The CTHS Sale graduate Blameitontheknight is nominated for the Red Diamond Express sponsored by Red Diamond Stables for the handicap for three year olds. This multiple stakes winning filly is the current champion claimer and the winner of the 2016 sales stakes. Blameitontheknight was bred by Don Gibb and is owned by Dale Saunders, M & P Equipment Inc. and Met Set Consulting Ltd. The four year old filly has earned $127,751 to date.

The Alberta Breeders’ Handicap sponsored by White Windows Thoroughbreds has five Alberta CTHS Sale graduates nominated including the high seller of the 2013 CTHS Sale, Centrefire. This stakes winner by North Light out of Golden Made was bred by Highfield and is owned by Curtis and Darrell Landry and Red Diamond Stable. The four year old has $92,160 in career earnings. The 2011 sale graduate Keene on Demand by Rosetti out of Ericka’s Lass is also nominated to this race. This five year old gelding was bred by Calmar Stables and Ranch and has earned over $150,000 to date for owners Tom Rycroft and Lewis Mailer.

The Alberta Premier’s Futurity sponsored by Horse Racing Alberta for two year olds has eighteen horses including eight Alberta CTHS Sale graduates. Among the sale graduates is the high seller of the 2015 CTHS Sale, Norm’s Big Bucks. The stakes winner by Exhi out of Fabulous Brush was bred by Highfield. He has earned $32,017 to date for owners Riversedge Racing Stable with a win in the two year old sales stakes this season. Special Kiss and Teeplay are also among the Alberta sales graduates nominated to this race. Special Kiss is a stakes placed two year old by Kissin Kriss out of Alke Special bred by Affirmed Investment Group while Teeplay is a stakes winner bred by Lorn Nysted.

The Alberta Oaks sponsored by True North Holdings Inc. for three year old fillies has six horses nominated including three CTHS Alberta Sale graduates. Multiple stakes winner and sale grad Onestaratatime is among the nominees. This Highfield bred filly by Cape Canaveral out of Renaissance Woman has earned $156,739 to date is coming into the Fall Classic directly off wins in her last three stakes races including the Sonoma, the Northlands Oaks and the Red Smith. Onestaratatime is owned by Curtis & Darrell Landry and Red Diamond Stable. Another Cape Canaveral filly, the stakes winning sale grad Leena, is also nominated to this race. Bred by Abed Itani, Leena has earned $83,605 for owner R and M Stable (Hansen).

The Sturgeon River for two year old fillies has nineteen horses nominated including twelve CTHS Alberta sale graduates. Saveitforarainyday has already proven her ability with a win in the two year old sales stakes this season earning $26,772 for owners Riley Rycroft, Dale Stark and Louis Mailer. This filly by Albertus Maximus out of Bali Amour was bred by Stone Ranches. Another CTHS Alberta sale graduate, multiple stakes placed Parcam Cowgirl, has also established herself this season with two second place finishes in the sales stakes and the Princess Margaret Stakes. She has earned $27,234 for owners Crystal Meadows Farms and was also bred by Stone Ranches. Bred by Elaine Macpherson, Tidal Mist is another nominated CTHS Alberta sale graduate who has proven her worth on the track this season with multiple stakes placings and earnings of $22,855 for owner Riversedge Racing Stable.

The Beaufort Stakes sponsored by Peaceful Valley Stable for three year olds has four Alberta CTHS Sale graduates among the total of nine horses nominated.  The multiple stakes winning runner and 2014 sale graduate Victory Day stands out among the nominated horses with a recent win in the Grand Prairie Derby. The top seller at the 2014 CTHS Alberta sale is by Exhi out of Lemon Drop Martini and has earned $64,578 to this point for owner Tim Rycroft. Victory Day was bred by Highfield.

The Fall Classic Distaff sponsored by Highfield for three year old and up fillies and mares has a total of eight horses nominated including the sales graduates Blameitontheknight, Leena, Ginger Smash, Life of Freedom and Smart Fix. The Cape Canveral runner Ginger Smash bred by Highfield out of Crystal Halo is a stakes winner and has earned $83,599 for owners Brian and Grace Deere. The Kissin Kris racehorse Smart Fix was bred by Esquirol Farms and is a multiple stakes placed runner with earnings to date of $56,216.
