The Racetrack programs at Olds College are certainly putting Olds College and Horse Racing Alberta on the world map. November 4th – 8th is the HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Horse Flat Racing Festival and HH Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Training and Education conference in Abu Dhabi which culminates with the World Final Races on November 8th at the Abu Dhabi Equestrian Center.

Olds College program coordinator Theresa Sealy, and Horse Racing Alberta’s Julie Brewster have been invited as the Canadian representatives on the International Federation of Horse Racing Academies (IFHRA). Olds College Exercise Rider/Jockey program grads Brandon Duchaine and Corrine Andros are invited as jockey representatives for Canada.  Brandon Duchaine earned a spot in the HH Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Apprentice World Championship on November 8th by winning the World Invitational apprentice race in Poland on August 23rd.  Brandon will be proudly carrying the Canadian flag and representing his country on that day.

All will be attending the HH Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Training and Education and bring the new initiatives and experiences back to Canada.  The amazing list of education includes the following:

  • Jockey Training Worldwide and prevention of racing accidents.  Speakers will include instructors and coaches from International racing academies.
  • Jockeys as high performance athletes.  Jean Cruguet, retired Triple Crown winning jockey of Seattle Slew is sharing his experience.
  • Controlled Jockey diet, weight control, and healing.  Research will be shared from the Liverpool John Moores University.
  • Public Relations and Media for Racing Industry Recruitment.  This will include information on ways to approach the media, making the racing industry attractive, future of jockeys and stable staff, and attracting young people.
  • Hands on Workshop for the apprentice jockeys with the best coaches from all over the world.  Each of the jockeys at the conference will get a chance to learn from the best in a live workshop with mechanical horses.

The week will begin with the official draw of the top 3 races on November 3rd.  Julie Brewster will be in attendance and will share with us the results of the draw for Brandon Duchaine.  The top 3 races are as follows:

  1. Sheik Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Jewel Crown – The World’s richest Arabian Races at 1,200,000 Euros
  2. HH Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies World Championship IFAHR
  3. HH Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Apprentice World Championship IFHAR.
