On to Saturday and it would be the Landry's Tell Me Lies (Quincy Welch for Greg Tracy) capturing the $50,000 Chariot Chaser stake event, for 3YO fillies, in Race 2. They'd then come back in the winner's circle for Boomtown Brat's (Amie Pooli for Tim Rycroft) $19,200 Allowance/Optional Claiming event win in the afternoon's 5th.
When you add all that up - it sure makes for a very enjoyable weekend.
"Now we look ahead to Wednesday and look forward to seeing our 2YO colt make his first start," added Landry. "He's a Kentucky-bred and he looks the part so far."
Out of Exile, owned by the Landry brothers, is the 2-1 morning line favourite in Race 2 (Wednesday, June 19) at Northlands Park. Rico Walcott will ride, for trainer Greg Tracy - from post position 1, in a $14,000 Maiden Special Weight test for 2YO's travelling 3 1/2 furlongs.
Wednesday card washed out...
Heavy rains last Wednesday afternoon resulted in that evening's card of racing being cancelled at Northlands Park. On the bright side... there should be a stock-pile of horses now to run in the coming weeks. Ten dashes will go postward this Wednesday evening with an eye-popping 93 horses expected to run.
Salsa Express, with Tony Maragh up - for owner's K6 Ranches Limited and Dr. Ed Welsh, would capture the top class event on the evening... a $19,200 Allowance/Optional Claiming contest at 6 1/2 furlongs. Trained by veteran conditioner Ernie Keller - the 8YO mare would pick up her 18th career win and put her well over $260,000 in life earnings. Maragh would also score with Smile Again Theta for trainer Jerri Robertson.
Rico Walcott (Silver City Sizzle and Stopped Short) and Ismael Mosqueira (Sand Bandit and Citation Girl) would also pick up a pair of wins on the night.
Other winners included I Rafaella (Amie Pooli) and Jump Up and Kissme (Shannon Beauregard).
Wayne Quanson's Najran Breeze (Nate Smith for Robertino Diodoro) would break his maiden in the $50,000 Western Canada stake for 3YO boys. As the longest shot, on the board, Najran Breeze would find himself on the lead early and never look back as he coasted home to a widening 12 length margin of victory.
The Western Canada is the first of three tests, which includes the Ky Alta (July 6th - 1 Mile) and the Count Lathum (July 27 - 1 Mile 1/16), that make up the 'road' to the $200,000 Canadian Derby (August 17th - 1 Mile 3/8).
Other Saturday winners included Roulette It Roll (Amie Pooli), Tell Me Lies (Quincy Welch), Fordy Eight Cush (Rico Walcott), Count The Change (Shannon Beauregard), Boomtown Brat (Pooli), A Royal Tizzy (Nate Smith) and Kiss Sin Goodbye (Stan Chadee Jr.).
