Masada Rocks "Rockin at Alberta Downs"

With stakes action just around the corner the hopefuls are surfacing for the highly anticipated 3yr-old colts racing division this year. Masada Rocks stepped up in winning fashion this past Sunday afternoon for trainer/driver Kelly Hoerdt and proving he could also be a contender.

The son of Rocknroll Hanover captured his first win in the fourth race by posting an impressive time of 1:55.2. Hoerdt co-owns the 3yr-old gelding with Erna and Blair Corbeil. Leaving out of post four Hoerdt and Masada Rocks went to the front off the gate hitting the first quarter in 27.4. They set the pace at the half in 56.3 and continued to dictate the three quarters in 1:26.2. Masada Rocks swept his six rivals as he cruised to victory by seven lengths.

Flak Jacket scores his second straight Open Pace

Flak Jacket scores in 1:52.2 for his second straight victory from off the pace to win the Open Pace Saturday afternoon in the seventh race. The 8-5 favorite settled in fourth off the gate and was once again driven patiently by trainer/driver Jamie Gray who waited for the stretch to ask upon Flak Jacket. Trust The Artist who took the lead just after the first quarter and continued to be game right to the finish and was just nipped out at the wire. Timberline Court settled for third who was five lengths back while Sixdaysontheroad was fourth and Mr. Saratoga fifth.

Flak Jacket paid 5.50 2.20 and 2.10. Gray doubled up in the eighth with Gts Jerilyn for trainer Gerald Mcginn. Mcginn also had two wins on the day winning with Gts Jake in the sixth who was the longest shot on the board paying 37.70 30.20 and 11.20. The 2-4 Exactor paid $85.20 and the 2-4-3 Triactor paid $313.90 while the Superfecta 2-4-3-6 paid $229.95.

Travis Cullenenjoyed another spectacular day on holiday Monday with a training and driving triple. Feelin Flush had an impressive 26.4 last quarter to win the Mares Open Pace in 1:56 in the eighth race. The talented 5yr-old daughter of As Promised is co-owned by Cullen and Ken Hanson of Manitoba and has turned in six wins and $30,639 since being claimed back on January 19th.

Feelin Flush now has 16 lifetime wins and a bank roll of $133,744 in lifetime earnings. Cullen had two more victories with Da Terror in the first race and Glitteronthebeach in the third race. This was the third win in a row for Glitteronthebeach and fifth win in her last six starts. The American Ideal 3yr-old filly has now banked $18,542 for her owners. Kim Chee was second while Artninspiration rallied up for third. The winner paid 2.90 2.30 and 2.10.

Fan Appreciation Daywas well attended at Alberta Downs on Monday. Congratulations to Albert Stang for winning the $500 Consolation Prize. The betting handle was very encouraging this past weekend with $36,060 bet on Sunday and $36,545 on Monday.
