Two In A Row For Credit Card Junkie

Credit Card Junkie goes back to back at Northlands Park

Credit Card Junkie made it two in a row on Saturday night as she won the $9,000 Open Mare Pace from just off the pace.  Sent off as the 6/5 favorite for driver Gerry Hudon, Credit Card Junkie got a nice trip in third early on as Emotions Run Wild went out to set the early pace. Emotions Run Wild yielded to A Special Lady who went on to take the lead by the wire first time around and got to a half mile in 58.2 seconds.  Hudon bided his time with Credit Card Junkie in the third spot and as they came towards the stretch he unleashed the four year old mare who burst to the lead and edged away down the straight to win by a length and three quarters.  Gts Jerilyn was sixth early on and closed up to grab the second spot while Phoenician Gal closed from seventh to get up for third.

It was the 9th win from 19 starts in 2013 for Credit Card Junkie who continues to run brilliantly for trainer Keith Clark.  Credit Card Junkie has won 21 of 45 starts in her wonderful career so far and has amassed over $206,000 in career earnings.

She completed the mile in 1:57.

Pick 4 Carryover into Friday Night Pick 4

Nobody could piece together the final Pick 4 of the weekend on Saturday night, so there will be a carryover into the first sequence on Friday night of $1,181.  The first Pick 4 is generally in races 4 through 7, so the pool should be extra juicy and allows players a great overlay on what is already one of the best bets at Northlands Park, the Pick 4!!  First post on Friday night is 6pm.

Weekend Wrap Up 11/22—11/23

Beren Hanover in a Saturday Night Shocker at Northlands Park

Beren Hanover wasn’t very highly thought of by the bettors on Saturday in the $9,000 Open Pace feature.  But he didn’t seem to care as he rallied from the pocket spot to get up and win with style by two and a quarter lengths.  Beren Hanover and Keith Clark went out to set the early pace, clicking off a first quarter in 28.2 seconds.  Clark elected to yield to Gable Blue Chip as they came down the stretch the first time around and Gable Blue Chip took the field to a half mile in 57.3 and three quarters in 1:26.3.  Clark stayed in that pocket spot for much of the journey and when the field reached the stretch he finally pulled out of the pocket and Beren Hanover erupted late to draw off and win by just over two lengths.  The old veteran Timberline Court was bet down to 2/1 favoritism and responded with his best effort of the young season, rallying from off the pace to get up and finish second, just ahead of Cowboy Caper who ran third.

It was the 4th victory of 2013 for Beren Hanover and his first in the Open Pace at Northlands during this season.

Beren Hanover completed the mile in a sharp 1:55.2 and now has eight wins in his career.

Playbook turns the tables on Raging Fingers

Playbook was able to finally get the better of Raging Fingers as these two rivals squared off again on Saturday.  Raging Fingers had won the last two races at the $15,000 claiming level with Playbook running second in each of those.  This week Raging Fingers went out to the lead and Keith Clark kept Playbook right in behind him in the pocket spot.  Playbook stayed back in that second position until they reached the top of the lane when Clark pulled out of the pocket and got to the lead.  Raging Fingers battled on bravely though and never gave up, but Playbook hit the wire a neck in front, stopping the clock in a blazing 1:54.3.
