Credit Card Junkie splashes through the snow at Northlands Park

Credit Card Junkie was last throughout the first half of Friday Night’s feature event for open Filly and Mare pacers.  But she was first when it mattered as she blew past all five rivals to get up and pull clear late to win by two and a quarter lengths.  Credit Card Junkie and Gerry Hudon were last early on as Gts Jerilyn went out to the front early on, setting an opening quarter mile of 29.2 seconds.  Keep The Dream and Keith Clark had the pocket spot early, but Clark brought his runner out to grab the lead going to the half mile in 59.1 seconds.  Clark stayed on that lead the entire way into the homestretch, but Credit Card Junkie came flying up three wide as they ran onto the final turn.  Keep the Dream led by a length in mid-stretch, but Credit Card Junkie had all of the momentum and blew by Keep the Dream late to get up and score by two and a quarter lengths.  Keep the Dream held on to the second spot, just a half length ahead of Doober Hoozzitz who rallied up into the third spot at odds of 18/1 and popped the Triactor payout up to $167.

It was 8th win in 2013 for Credit Card Junkie and her 20th score overall.  The winner’s share of the purse jumped her career earnings to over the $200,000 mark for trainer Keith Clark who owns the horse with Doris Mcdougall.

The final time for the mile was 2:00.0.

Weekend Wrap Up 11/15—11/16

Blue Star Admiral takes home the Saturday night Feature at Northlands

Blue Star Admiral flew late to take home the top prize in Saturday night’s featured $9,000 Open Pace.  Sent off at odds of 5/1, floating up from the 3/1 morning line, Blue Star Admiral and William Tainsh Jr. elected to sit in mid-pack early on, fifth and about six lengths off the early leader who was Smooth Criminal.  Smooth Criminal was 13/1 on the board and went out to the lead through a solid opening quarter of 28.1 seconds.  Smooth Criminal got a 30 second breather in the second quarter and got to three quarters still on the lead in 1:27.  Blue Star Admiral was still fifth as they came to the stretch, but William Tainsh Jr. got his horse to really start pacing quickly late, rolling by their rivals to get up and win by a length and three quarters in the end.  Gable Blue Chip was second throughout much of the race and grabbed the lead momentarily before giving way to Blue Star Admiral.  Tip Top Tap got up for third at 15/1 odds.

It was Blue Star Admiral’s 6th win of 2013 and his 9th win from 30 starts in his career for trainer Glen Lutz.  Blue Star Admiral completed the mile in 1:57.3.

Raging Fingers takes home the fastest mile of the week for the second straight time

Raging Fingersis currently one of the hottest horses in Alberta as this week he cruised to his second consecutive win.  The 8 year old also had the fastest mile for the second week in a row.  Two weeks ago Raging Fingers and Travis Cullen blitzed wire to wire to beat $15,000 claimers by a length and three quarters.  This week he once again went to the lead and never looked back, opening up in the stretch to win by a length and three quarters, stopping the clock in 1:56 flat on a weekend when the track wasn’t playing all that fast.

Raging Fingers has now won six of his last seven starts, with that one recent defeat being after he had a brutal trip in behind horses and came up just a neck short.  Earlier this summer he was struggling at the $9,000 claiming level at Alberta Downs after not hitting the board in three straight starts.  But Cullen and Raging Fingers scored a late running win at 7/1 on October 6th and the streak began.

Raging Fingers has now pocketed just shy of $40,000 this year for his owners Travis Cullen and Keith Hannah.  Travis Cullen trains and drives the 8 year old.
