WE SAY GOODBYE TO ALBERTA’S "PROMISE"

Sadly we announce the passing of our Alberta Stallion As Promised. As Promised passed away at the age of 24. ASHA staff, Board of Directors and it’s members would like to send their condolences to all the connections of As Promised.

Your sweet and gentle nature, the kindness in your eye and the softness of your brown muzzle will be cherished year after year.

We loved you then~~We love you now~~Forever in our hearts!

MR SARATOGA CLINCHES 32nd LIFETIME WIN!

Mr. Saratoga took his second $8500 Open Pace win of the year this past Sunday at Alberta Downs. With the scratch of Flak Jacket and the field down to just four horses driver/trainer Quentin Schneider was happy to take back and follow the field. Trust The Artist (Brown) went to the lead and controlled the race till the three quarters with fractions of 27.3, 56.1, 1:25. No Fear (Campbell) took over down the stretch but could not hold off the fast closing Mr Saratoga who crossed the wire in 1:53.2 winning by four lengths. No Fear held on for second while Smooth Criminal (Tainsh) came up for third. The favorite paid $4.60 $2.60 $2.70.

This was Mr Saratoga’s 32nd lifetime win and now boasts $690,402 in lifetime earnings for owners Glenn Pinel and Alan Christensen.

DIAMONDS ARE A GIRLS BEST FRIEND!

On Saturday, August 17th we saw two $20,000 divisions of the Alberta Diamond eliminations for ABSS 3-yr old fillies. In the first division there were no surprises with the favorite Crackers Hot Shot prevailing in a time of 1:55.2 for trainer/owner Rod Starkewski. Emotions Run Wild who led the race till the stretch held on for a close second for driver/trainer Kelly Hoerdt. Blue Star West (Gray) was third and Blazing By (Campbell) was fourth. The favorite paid $4.30 $2.10 $2.10.

In the second division the favorite Barona Lilac did not dissappoint winning easily in 1:56.4 by two lengths over Cenalta Fireworks (Goulet). G T’s Salene (Tainsh) crossed the line third and Outlawcherishafool (Kolthammer) came up for fourth. Barona Lilac paid $2.40 $2.20 $2.20.

The top four fillies from each division will compete for the $50,000 Alberta Diamond Final this Saturday, August 24th.

Bettors enjoyed a few nice win payouts on the day. Starting in the second race with Gaucho Hanover paying $15.80 to win, Nevermissabeat paying $11.00 in the third race and Total Rhythm paying $19.70 in the 10th and final race.

The 3yr-old ABSS Colts & Geldings will take stage on Sunday, August 25th for the $73,000 final of the Alberta Marksman. There were no eliminations contested. This category always proves to be an exciting competition as we have no shortage of talented 3y-old colts in Alberta. We look forward to a thrilling race and anticipate a fast mile.

Travis Cullen once again had another great day at the office on Monday, August 19th with a driving/training triple. In the second race the young talented driver drove his pupil Da Terror to score in 1:54.2. This was Da Terror’s 8th win in just 12 starts for the 4 yr-old Western Terror-Jen And Lissy gelding. Cullen was back on top in the 6th race with Fancy Camelot and once again in the winner’s circle one race later with Phoenician Gal.
