The first Friday night race card is all set for this weekend, post time is 6 p.m. Friday night racing will continue through June as part of the Rocky Mountain Turf Club's Spring Meet.
Of course there will be live racing this Saturday and Sunday, with the horses going to the post at 1:15 p.m. Naturally Saturday and Sunday cards continue though to the end of the Spring Meet, July 4-5.
As in the past the Friday card features six races while Saturday and Sunday have eight-race cards.
"This weekend we tried to get as many horsemen involved as possible and have a number of seven and eight horse races," says Dot Stein, race manager for the RMTC.
"We have some great horses in action, including ACTRA award winners like Smile Lee, Freshside, Mystical Dixie and At The Bada Bing among others," Friday's opening race spotlights Jim Depew with Pure Vertical and other top trainers like Riley Rycroft, William Leech, Rosa Lee Burbank and Leonard Bourne.
Saturday's eighth race features eight horses, two from Lyle Magnuson, He's Italian and Megaton Ruler. Pete Dubois had General Gabe entered and Bobby Handy may be the horse to watch, trained by Riley Rycroft, who is having a fine Spring Meet with five wins to date.
Sunday's opening race is a 350-yard sprint with Janice Sather's Keep Good Karma coming out of the always unpredictable one hole. On the other hand Angelle Carter brings Tres Seis Smooches out of the five hole and in gate six is Kurt Carlton with Poutn With Speed.
The last race of the weekend will see if Stan Marks can work is magic again with Soul De Naskra over the six furlong run.
As well Pat Goruk has entered Promiscuous Lad in the three-year-old and upwards race which also features Pipestone Flyer, Mamoonya, Just Zoom Will Do, Skimming Song and Stamp Of Approval from the meet's leading trainer, Lyle Magnuson and ridden by the meet's leading jockey, Larris Allen.
After three weekends of racing Lyle Magnuson continues to be the cream of the training crop with 10 wins, with Riley Rycroft and William Leech next in line with five apiece.
Larris Allen is the leading rider with 15 victories, followed by Trevor Simpson with 11 wins.
Besides the races the RMTC has a full array of entertainment, from a large bazar, Dixieland Jazz music, a variety of food and drinks, simulcast wagering, and the kiddies petting zoo and candy scramble.
