There will be 15 races this weekend at the Rocky Mountain Turf Club, seven Saturday and eight Sunday. "We have seven races on Saturday's card to accommodate those race fans who wish to see the Preakness, which will be run after our final live race at 4:10 p.m.," said RMTC CEO Max Gibb.

"Our seven live races will be great however, with the longest thus far in the Spring season. It will be a six furlong affair, featuring horses from some of our top trainers, like Lyle Magnuson, Laurie Ferguson, and crowd favourite Nellie Pigeau.

"Our card Saturday begins with two Quarter horse sprints, of 20 and 300 yards. I'm real pleased the opening race is a Paint Maiden Sprint, with a $4,200-added purse." Th Paint sprint features well-known trainers, Laurie Ferguson with Jerseylicious, Alvin Crosschild with Bound Up, William Leech's Goodstriker, a Gibb-owned horse, Lyle Magnuson's Shot Both Sides, also a Gibb-owned horse, Janet Sather with JS Sweet Sassymolassy and former top RMTC jockey Angelle Carter now training Autumns Dashing Moon.

"Sunday there'll be eight races capped off a full field in the five furlong eighth race," said Gibb.

"As well we have the 330-yard RMTC Bonus Challenge for Sunday's fifth race. This sprint has a $15,000 guaranteed purse. William Leech has three horses in this race and Angelle Carter has her Tres Sets Smooches." Most race fans will be pulling for the heavy favourite, California Chrome in the Preakness, looking to win the second leg of the Triple Crown. The last Triple Crown winner was Affirmed, way back in 1978.

Gibb will have one of his top horses in Sunday's second race, Hey Italian Lady, trained by Lyle Magnuson and ridden by Blandford Stewart.

The full eighth race Sunday feature's Gibb's He's Italian with Magnuson and Stewart again, along with another Magnuson-trained horse Majorca Gold. Also going to the gate was last year's super Eighty Eight and Gail McConaghie's Slews Academy.

Post time both days is 1:15 p.m.
