Huge Mothers’ Day attendance and ACTRA awards dominate weekend at RMTC

Mother's Day weekend at RMTC was a huge success with any measuring stick. The crowds were great and the handle was up again, all leading to what has the markings of an outstanding spring meet at RMTC. A loud and enthusiastic crowd led to to a surge of excitement for each race.

Trainers Jaqueline Smith, (Impulzive Kate, Vernon Cat); Elly Rutherford, (Altered Carbon, Lucky After All), and Lyle Magnuson, (Naomi's Gift, Doc Radke), posted two victories on Mother's Day. Larris Allen was the hot jock with two wins for Magnuson and one for Smith. Martin Ortiz rode both winners for Ellie Rutherford.

The ACTRA awards for 2017 were held Saturday, May 12th. Veteran rider Scott Sterr picked up the hardware for leading jockey at RMTC's spring and fall meet, while Blandford Steward won leading rider for Evergreen Park in Grande Prairie. Garry Marks won leading spring trainer at RMTC, while Lyle Magnuson was leading trainer for Evergreen Park and RMTC's fall meet.

Horseman of the year went to Cecil Weist, while Max Gibb won breeder of the year.
